When Money Enters the Room: An Introduction to Financial Therapy
As therapists our clients bring in a wide array of issues and topics to the room. One of the most common and likely overlooked topics that clients bring up is stress related to money. Unfortunately many therapists feel ill equipped with the tools and strategies for knowing how to navigate emotional and relational issues that involve money. This presentation will introduce the emerging field of Financial Therapy by providing an overview of its theory, concepts, and interventions in an effort to provide therapists with those strategies and tools. Therapists will leave with understanding how financial health and mental health are intertwined from a systemic perspective and the important role that therapists play in helping clients to improve. Therapists will also learn about money disorders and how to identify them in clients.
